Hello, I am 16 years old, female. Yesterday I noticed thick hair on my chin. I am worried since then. It was not like normal hair, it was thick and hard like a beard. I never saw a girl with thick hair on her chin. Is everything okay with me? Is it normal to have chin hair?

@yammi Hello, yes it is hormonal. Male hair growth patterns in females are called hirsutism. When it occurs in girls during puberty, it is almost always due to the body producing too many androgens (male hormones), or hair shafts being overly sensitive to androgens. Either way, it is hormonal. Teenage facial and body hair is however completely manageable, and very, very common. Around 1 in 4 girls will experience at least a mild form of pubescent hirsutism, while around 1 in 100 will need to pluck or shave each day. You can talk to your doctor for details. Thanks.
