Hello, my father recently got diagnosed with AAA or an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Symptoms were nausea, vomiting, and Sudden, severe pain in your belly, lower back, or legs. He is 69 years old. Can anyone tell me what causes AAA? What is the common cause of AAA?

@danis Hello, The aorta is the largest blood vessel in the body. It transports oxygen-rich blood away from the heart to the rest of the body. When a person is suffering from AAA the wall of the aorta becomes weakened and a large amount of blood that passes through it puts pressure on the weak spot, causing it to bulge outwards to form an aneurysm. It's not known exactly what causes the aortic wall to weaken the aorta. Here are a few of the most common causes of AAA-

        • Smoking
        • High blood pressure
        • Family history
          Thanks!
