Hello, I have been using retinol for my acne for about 19 weeks now. In the beginning, I had got a bad purge on my chin, but after a few weeks, it started to get better. However, from weeks 6-7 onward I have started getting acne on my cheeks, where I barely got acne in that area in the past. I have heard that generally with retinoids, the purge might last for a month but it has been 3 months since I introduced retinoids to my skin. there were some improvements to the initial acne, I keep getting new breakouts that I didn't have before. Can retinoids purge the last 3 months?

@zyli Hello, retinol is one of the most effective treatments in increasing cellular turnover, exfoliating the top layers of our skin, and boosting collagen production. Retinol promotes cell turnover, which means that it brings new, healthy cells to the surface of your skin in order to replace old dead ones. Retinoids dry out the skin and can cause irritation, particularly in those with dry skin. This is different from purging and may persist for longer. Purging usually lasts for anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months. It can range in severity from a few minor pimples to major breakouts, skin dryness, flaking, peeling, and other skin irritation. If you are concerned do check with your dermatologist. Thanks!
