Hello, since the birth of my child 2 years ago, I have been getting short of breath about a week before I start my period. My Gynecologist says he has never heard of this and he thinks it is all in my mind. Of course, it isn't! Anyway, I am a healthy 29-year-old. The only medical problem I have is hypothyroidism and I am taking medication for it. Thank you for your time. Please help me with this,

@abbi Hello, I think that the shortness of breath may be caused by catamenial asthma. Catamenial asthma is asthma that is associated with your menstrual cycle. Just before and during your period, progesterone and estrogen levels decrease. In some women, these hormone changes may worsen asthma. The relationship between hormones and asthma is complex, varies from person to person, and isn't fully understood. Though the precise cause is unclear, there are various theories about how hormonal fluctuations may cause shortness of breath. Thanks!
