    • A History of Head Trauma May Predict Parkinson Progression

A history of head trauma may predict a more rapid decline in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), new research suggests. In a longitudinal online study, among patients with PD who had a history of head injury, motor impairment developed 25% faster and cognitive impairment developed 45% faster than among those without such a history. There is a popular saying that "stress speeds up aging," which makes sense if we consider the age-old idea that "our age corresponds to that of our arteries." The study of the mechanisms of psychosocial risk factors is of major relevance to the creation of the individual and communal preventive strategies that ensure longevity and maintain quality of life.

    • Children With Nut Allergies: One Size Does Not Fit All

It is not "one size fits all" in the management of peanut and tree nut allergies, a comprehensive review suggests, but rather, treatment plans need to be individualized for children allergic to peanuts and/or tree nuts to meet their nutritional needs and still keep children safe from allergic food reactions. The review was published online November 28 in Clinical and Experimental Allergy. Helen Brough, MD, from Guy's and St. Thomas' National Health Service Foundation Trust, London, United Kingdom, and colleagues tried to synthesize current evidence on how best to manage a child with limited allergies to nuts as well as what to do with prepackaged foods that carry precautionary allergy labeling (PAL).
