    • Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy Up Early Maternal Mortality

Chronic hypertension is one of the strongest risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) but might not be the primary pathway through which hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDPs) can affect a woman's health and life span. In a study of more than 88,000 women, published in the March 16 issue of the Journal of American College of Cardiology, gestational hypertension and pre-eclampsia were associated with a 42% higher age-adjusted risk of dying before age 70. The association remained significant even after full adjustment for potential confounders and postpregnancy dietary, lifestyle, and reproductive factors (hazard ratio [HR], 1.31; 95% CI, 1.18 - 1.46).

    • RE: Sleep-Disordered Breathing Tied to Accelerated Aging

@riya The study included 622 adults (mean age 69 years, 53% women) from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). All participants underwent polysomnography; DNA methylation, a marker for epigenetic age acceleration, was measured in blood samples. Age acceleration measures were calculated as residuals from the regression of each epigenetic age on chronologic age. The association of each SDB trait with age acceleration was estimated using linear regression, controlling for sociodemographics, health behaviors, body mass index, and study site. Increasing SDB severity and sleep disruption were associated with epigenetic age acceleration, independent of measured confounders.

    • RE: Financial Burden Higher With CVD Than Cancer

@navika For this analysis, the researchers used National Health Interview Survey data on 141,286 adults 18 to 65 years of age with self-reported ASCVD, which included coronary or cerebrovascular disease, and/or cancer from 2013 to 2018. Of these patients, 6,093 had ASCVD, 6,887 had cancer, 971 had both, and 127,875 had neither.

    • RE: How to deal with a short tempered person?

@srabanti When they are lashing out, do not engage with them. If you react, things can turn ugly. Instead, keep your calm and let things settle on their own. When the other person is done with their outburst, they are likely to realise their mistake, their overreaction, and apologise on their own. Till then, take a step back. You are a human being, too, and are allowed to lose your cool. But, not when someone is already aboard the rage train. This is not to say that you are not allowed to express yourself, but do so when the waters are calmer and the storm has passed. If you retaliate, or respond in an equally nasty manner, the situation may worsen. So stay as patient as you possibly can.

    • RE: What are the treatment option for ACL tear?

@nilabjo Nonsurgical treatment such as a brace to protect from instability and physical therapy to strengthen the surrounding ligaments to provide greater stability.
Surgical reconstruction of the ACL to restore the internal structures of the knee to enable maximal stability. Your choice of treatment will depend on such factors as your age, your activity level, and the severity of your injury. You should also talk to your doctor about any preferences and concerns you may have. Patients usually choose reconstruction if they want to continue their sport or other activity, or if they are younger and want to prevent or prolong the time until they develop arthritis in the area. An older adult who just wants to walk and work out on a treadmill may choose to avoid surgery.

    • RE: Is it good to have ice-cream in winter?

@bubun Children are the most vulnerable to catching virus and infections. Eating ice cream in very chilly weather may not cause any disease in particular, but winters are the time you should be feeding your body with warm foods. Ice cream can cause cold, cough and chest congestion too.

    • RE: Cluster headache- how to manage?

@mimi There's no cure for cluster headaches. The goal of treatment is to decrease the severity of pain, shorten the headache period and prevent the attacks. Because the pain of a cluster headache comes on suddenly and might subside within a short time, cluster headache can be difficult to evaluate and treat, as it requires fast-acting medications. Some types of acute medication can provide some pain relief quickly. The therapies listed below have proved to be most effective for acute and preventive treatment of cluster headache.
      Acute treatments
Fast-acting treatments available from your doctor include:
Oxygen. Briefly inhaling pure oxygen through a mask provides dramatic relief for most who use it. The effects of this safe, inexpensive procedure can be felt within 15 minutes.
Oxygen is generally safe and without side effects. The major drawback of oxygen is the need to carry an oxygen cylinder and regulator with you, which can make the treatment inconvenient and inaccessible at times. Small, portable units are available, but some people still find them impractical.
Triptans. The injectable form of sumatriptan (Imitrex), which is commonly used to treat migraine, is also an effective treatment for acute cluster headache. The first injection may be given while under medical observation. Some people may benefit from using sumatriptan in nasal spray form, but for most people this isn't as effective as an injection and it may take longer to work. Sumatriptan isn't recommended if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure or heart disease.
