Interim results from a multidomain interventional study that has the aim of preventing cognitive impairment and disability by managing vascular and lifestyle risk factors show successful reductions in weight, body mass index (BMI), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels in patients at risk for dementia, researchers report. Miia Kivipelto, MD, professor of clinical geriatric epidemiology from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, is leading the Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER) trial, working with colleagues from the University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio and the University of Helsinki, Finland. She presented these 1-year results of the FINGER study here at the Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) 27th International Conference.

RE: More Evidence COVID 'Brain Fog' Is Biologically Based
@gagan There are no effective diagnostic tests or treatments for cognitive PASC, which prompted the investigators to study inflammation in patients with the condition. As reported by Medscape Medical News, the same investigators published initial findings earlier this year. This research showed abnormalities in the CSF in 77% of patients with cognitive impairment. Patients without cognitive impairments had normal CSF. Extending that work in this new study, researchers studied patients from the Long-term Impact of Infection with Novel Coronavirus (LIINC) study with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection who were not hospitalized. They conducted 2-hour neurocognitive interviews and identified 23 people with new, persistent cognitive symptoms (cognitive PASC) and 10 with no cognitive symptoms who served as controls.

How to convince my toddler to overcome fear of ghost?
Phasmophobia, or the fear of ghosts, can be complicated to diagnose. Many people experience a certain thrill of anxiety when telling ghost stories or watching movies that feature ghosts and other supernatural entities. Most are able to control this fear and some even enjoy the feeling that it creates. Some people, however, this fear is overwhelming and life-limiting, thereby meeting the traditional definition of a phobia. Some experts feel that a phobia of ghosts may be symptomatic of a more serious thought disorder, as it may constitute a form of magical thinking. How to convince my toddler to overcome fear of ghost?

RE: Is HbA1c a better test for diabetics?
@manisha The hba1c is an important reflection of glucose control over a three month period. It gives some guidance as to long-term glucose levels which otherwise change greatly over a day. Glycosylated hemoglobin is due to a covalent bond between glucose and beta chain of haemoglobin. Its percentage is the percentage of glycosylated haemoglobin as of total hemoglobin. The amount is proportional to glucose levels over about 6 weeks. Hba1c of more than 8% requires pharmaco therapeutic management rather than dietary alone. However it is to be kept in mind that hba1c estimates may be less useful in anaemia, pregnancy, uremia and hemoglobinopathies.

Vision and IOP were 20/25 and 22 mm Hg, respectively, OD. She had 1–2+ AC cell with 3–4+ vitreous cell and 1–2+ vitreous haze. There was no retinitis or retinal vasculitis by examination or fluorescein angiography. The left eye was completely uninvolved. She had suffered from episodic ‘black outs’ associated with IOP elevation and recurrent, acute anterior uveitis OD over the preceding 9 years. She was otherwise completely healthy with no significant medical, family or social history. Doctor suggested that it might be the case of intermediate uveitis. Please suggest that how to cure?
