There are several causes of low hemoglobin levels.

        1. The main cause is poor diet. If the child doesn't eat enough foods with iron in them, that can cause anemia.
        2. If the child is ill or sick a lot, this can cause iron levels to drop.

One reason that children have low iron is if they drink too much milk, and don't eat enough food, they don't get enough iron. If you don't eat meat, you need to find other sources of food full of iron, such as sweet potatoes and beans, legumes, lentils.
Also, you can give an iron supplement, in the form of children's vitamins.
When you give iron, take with Vitamin C, or a drink that has Vitamin C such as orange juice for better absorption. Do not give iron with milk or formula.
