Can levothyroxine cause dry mouth?
-
Hi, I am 45 years old. I have been taking levothyroxine on my doctor's prescription. I wake up with a dry mouth and if I don’t drink or eat anything I have a dry mouth. In short, I constantly have dry mouths. I never had this problem before. Is this because of the levothyroxine I have been taking?

@shiv-kumar Yes, Levothyroxine, a thyroid placement therapy, causes dry mouth. Levothyroxine is used to treat an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism). It replaces or provides more thyroid hormone, which is normally produced by the thyroid gland. Having enough thyroid hormone is important for normal mental and physical activity. Do consult your doctor as dehydration could be the reason for your dry mouth and dry mouth is a common side effect of Levothyroxine. Seek medical help if you experience stomach aches or abdominal pain.
