Hello, I am 18 years old. Today after I was in the sun which resulted in a sunburn. My face is red but the most affected part is my hands. They itch a bit. My mom asked me to apply aloe vera gel so it will soothe that part of my skin. Aloe vera has a cool soothing effect. How long should you wait to put aloe Vera on after a sunburn?

@advait Hello, Aloe vera has short-term anti-inflammatory, soothing properties and can provide respite from the pain and swelling of sunburn. You can place the aloe vera plant or oil in your refrigerator a few minutes before applying it to immediately cool the skin. This should help the itching and stinging associated with a bad sunburn. Although aloe vera can be used to treat minor sunburns, more severe burns may require medical care from your doctor. Avoid using aloe vera on severe burns. Anyone who has concerns about the severity of a burn should talk to a healthcare professional. Perform a patch test before using aloe vera gel on a large area of skin. Apply a small amount of aloe vera on the arm and wait 24 hours. If there is a reaction, such as an allergic rash, do not use aloe vera. Try to avoid getting sunburnt in the first place. Wear sun-protective clothing and apply sunscreen every 2 hours during exposure to high ultraviolet rays. Sunburn damages the skin in the short term but can have serious long-term implications.
