Does vitamin C deficiency cause miscarriages?
-
Is true that vitamin C deficiency during pregnancy can cause miscarriage? If yes, then can anyone tell me how they are connected. I know vitamin C deficiency doesn’t have any specific symptoms. I am 6 weeks pregnant, and how will I get to know that I am vitamin C deficient?

@ishita Hello, there is no study showing that it causes miscarriage but Vitamin C is an antioxidant that’s important for the skin, bones, and connective tissues. Aside from this, it helps the body absorb iron and boost the immune system. Vitamin C during pregnancy may help reduce complications such as maternal anemia, intrauterine growth restriction, and pre-eclampsia. Vitamin C deficiency among pregnant women may lead to serious health effects on the fetus' brain. Signs of Vitamin C deficiency can be vague but do exist. Slow or delayed wound healing and swollen or bleeding gums are two signs that indicate the inadequacy of vitamin c. Besides this, a weak immune system, inflamed joints, and increased bruising can also be symptoms of ascorbic acid deficiency. Although rare, severe vitamin C deficiency causes scurvy. The most common sources of vitamin C include broccoli, greens, tomatoes, citrus fruits, and red or green peppers.
