Hello, I am a 34 years old female. I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism since last year. I have a sudden breakout because of hypothyroidism as I never had such issues even in my puberty. Can anyone tell me if hypothyroidism causes breakouts?

@ranji Hello, No. The thyroid is a small butterfly-shaped gland with a big role. It’s responsible for secreting the hormones that control your metabolism. It also regulates skin function, such as how much oxygen the skin absorbs. There is a relation between hair follicles and the thyroid that's why doctors test thyroid levels if a person is suffering from alopecia but acne isn’t usually one of the skin conditions related to a thyroid disorder. Acne on the jawline could be because of hormonal imbalance. Talk to your healthcare provider or a dermatologist about the best way to treat acne.
