Hello, I am a 33 years old male. My wife has surgery tomorrow and doctors recommended she not eat before surgery at least 8 hours before the surgery. What will happen if she eats a few hours before receiving anesthesia?

@hitanshu Hello, the reason you cannot eat after midnight on the night before surgery is to keep your stomach empty to prevent your stomach contents from regurgitating into your windpipe when you are under anesthesia. The center will not go through with your surgery if you break this rule because the dangers are serious. If your stomach has food and drink in it, there's a risk of vomiting or bringing up food into your throat. If this happens, the food could get into your lungs and affect your breathing, as well as cause damage to your lungs, so it is recommended not to eat before anesthesia.
