How can I get rid of tobacco addiction?
-
Hello, I am 40 years old male. I have been smoking cigarettes since I was 16 years. That’s the reason I have so many health issues not only that now I have difficulty breathing while performing any sort of physical activity I can’t climb stairs. I am giving a thought about quitting tobacco. Can anyone suggest how can I get rid of my tobacco addiction? Any type of suggestion would be helpful.

@walter Hello, good to hear that after all these years you finally decided to quit tobacco. Tobacco is harmful no matter in which form you consume it. I hope the ways I am going to suggest will help you. Here are some ways which helped my husband in quitting tobacco:-
- Nicotine replacement products- These products provide nicotine without using tobacco. These products are available as gum, a patch, nasal spray, an inhaler, and lozenges. Nicotine replacement works by reducing your body’s craving for nicotine. This reduces withdrawal symptoms. It lets you focus on the changes you need to make in your habits and environment.
- Doctor’s prescribed medicine- Our doctors prescribed him some medicine. These medicines do not contain nicotine but help you resist your urge to smoke. Ask your doctor for his or her recommendation.
- Take the help of your family and friends.
- Exercise and physical activity- Physical activity can help distract you from tobacco cravings and reduce their intensity. Even a short burst of physical activity such as running up and down the stairs a few times can make a tobacco craving go away. Get out for a walk or jog.
Treatment for a tobacco addition requires a combination of methods. You should talk to your doctor about what treatments you should try.
