Hello, yesterday my gynecologist said I need to eat more food that has higher folic acid content. After reaching home I read what will happen if I’ll not eat food rich in folic acid while being pregnant then I came to know then my baby is at higher risk for neural tube defects. Neural tube defects are serious birth defects that affect the spine, spinal cord, or brain and may cause death. Can anyone suggest food that is rich in folic acid? Food that I should eat during pregnancy?

@kinsley Folate, also known as vitamin B9, is a water-soluble vitamin that has many important functions in your body. Vitamin B9 is found naturally in many foods, as well as in the form of folic acid in fortified foods. Here are some foods that are high in folate or folic acid.

        • Legumes like beans, peas, and lentils
        • Asparagus- Asparagus is high in fiber and contains a good amount of folate
        • Eggs
        • Leafy green vegetables
        • Citrus fruits
        • Brussels sprouts
        • Broccoli
Eating a variety of healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, as well as fortified foods, is an easy way to increase your folate intake.
