Hi, in my neighbor's home a 19 year old white woman has come for spending holidays with her mother. She has suffered an asthma attack after collapsing during a winter fun run. Her mother told that she had asthma since the age of 5. She was severely short of breath and unable to speak in full sentences. I would like to understand the pathophysiology of asthma and the possible triggering factors for this exacerbation.

@Kevin Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of airways, characterized by bronchoconstriction, increased vascular permeability, excess mucus production and impaired muco-ciliary clearance. Due to airway hyper- responsiveness, both specific and non-specific stimuli can trigger the inflammatory response in people with asthma, which is mediated by eosinophils, mast cells, lymphocytes and neutrophils.
        Possible triggering factors:
        Medicines
        Allergens
        Running
        Non compliance with medication
        Infection
