Hi, my uncle is 65 years old staying with me. He has a history of diabetes for last 20 years. He is on insulin now and also is suffering from chronic constipation. He has consulted with his clinician, who is an endocrinologist. After that he became very frustrated and depressed too. Doctor said that he has developed diabetic neuropathy along with gastroparesis. Can anyone please elaborate these on a lay man words so that I can understand what
he is suffering from. So that I can help him.

@Bubun People living with diabetes may develop diabetic neuropathy. Diabetic neuropathy is nerve damage that can affect different parts of the body, including the digestive tract.
Diabetes-related nerve damage may affect the vagus nerve, which controls the movement of food through the digestive tract.
When this occurs, a person’s bowels cannot process solid waste as effectively. As a result, a person may become constipated. Damage to the vagus nerve can also cause a condition called gastroparesis, which people sometimes refer to as delayed gastric emptying.
