Hello, I have been suffering from asthma since I was 8 years old. I take an inhaler to control my asthma attacks but can’t get rid of wheezing. In summer I don’t usually suffer much but in winter it is more frequent. I wheeze more. One of my colleagues told me caffeine helps me in reducing wheezing. Is it so?

@deborah Hello, yes it may help but my advice for you would be that you shouldn't rely on caffeine for asthma symptoms. Caffeine has a variety of pharmacological effects; it is a weak bronchodilator and it also reduces respiratory muscle fatigue. It is chemically related to the drug theophylline which is used to treat asthma. It has been suggested that caffeine may reduce asthma symptoms and interest has been expressed in its potential role as an asthma treatment. Therefore Caffeine relieves the symptoms of asthma, such as wheezing, coughing, and breathlessness.
