Acne during pregnancy.
Hello, I am a 26 years old female. I am 14 weeks pregnant. My skin is going through a rough patch right now, I have acne on the sides of my face and on my chin. I never experienced such breakouts in my life. Is it normal to have acne during pregnancy? If yes then please tell me why?
@rani Hello, acne during pregnancy is common and is caused by hormonal changes in the body. Acne is caused by the increase in the level of hormones. The higher level boosts your skin's production of natural oils. Progesterone helps your uterus prepare to support a growing baby, but high levels of this hormone also stimulate your skin's oil glands, making them produce more oil. When the oil clogs your pores, it can lead to acne breakouts. Do not take any medication without the prescription of a doctor as it may harm your baby. You can always take natural treatments like:
- Washing your face the twice-daily day with a mild cleanser and lukewarm water. Avoid scrubbing the face.
- Use an oil-free moisturizer and oil-free cosmetics.
- Shampoo regularly and try to keep your hair off your face.
- Avoid picking or popping pimples to reduce the chances of infection or scarring.
- Eat healthily.
