Can I have butter if I have high cholesterol?
-
Hello, I am 44 years old male. A few months back I came to know that I have high cholesterol and I am a bit worried about that and taking a lot of precautions. My doctor asked me to avoid a lot of food but I don’t remember anything about fat. Can anyone tell me it is recommended to eat butter if I have cholesterol?

@archan Hello, Butter contains saturated and trans fats, both of which may increase the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, or bad cholesterol, in a person’s blood. So it is better to avoid butter. Few lifestyle changes can help you in lowering your high cholesterol like eating lots of healthy, heart-boosting foods, such as fibrous whole grains, healthy fats, limiting the intake of partially hydrogenated oils, fried foods, and foods containing trans fats, and exercising. Butter is high in calories and fat, so you should eat it in moderation or replace it with healthy unsaturated fats. Eating a lot of butter may contribute to weight gain and could play a part in raising levels of LDL cholesterol. Thank You
