Can thyroid medicine cause hair loss? What should I do?
-
Hello, I am 45 years old male. I have been diagnosed with thyroid since last year and I have seen a vast difference in my hair. I think I’ll go bald soon. I am worried. I don’t have any other heart disease. I am only taking thyroid medicine. Am I right? Is it because of thyroid medicine? Can thyroid medicine cause hair loss?

@ananjay Hello, the thyroid does affect hair follicles. Certain drugs used to treat thyroid conditions may also contribute to hair thinning. Carbimazole and propylthiouracil are antithyroid drugs that may, in rare cases, lead to hair loss. It can also be hard to tell if the drug or your thyroid condition is causing your hair to thin due to hair. You should talk to your doctor about these concerns. Thanks
