Hello, I am 40 years old female. Last week I visited my pulmonologist as I was having pain in my throat and constant cough. He prescribed me antibiotics but I never take antibiotics even if it is prescribed it always gets better even if I don’t take but this time it is not getting better. Should I take antibiotics prescribed by my pulmonologist? Will taking antibiotics help me?

@yuna Hello, Yes if you are suffering from acute bronchitis then you should definitely take antibiotics. Acute bronchitis can be contagious because it is usually caused by infection with a virus or bacteria. Chronic bronchitis is not likely to be contagious because it is a condition usually caused by long-term irritation of the airways. If he has acute bronchitis then please take respective measures. Antibiotics will only work if the bronchitis is caused by a bacterial infection. Antibiotics are not effective against viruses or irritant inflammation, so they’re not usually used to treat bronchitis. You should take antibiotics it will help you if you have acute bronchitis. Please consult your pulmonologist. Thanks!
