Hello, Is there anyone who also experiences earache in winter? How common is earache during winter? Why it is common in winter? I am 20 years old female. As the temperature decreases, I start having pain in my ears. Why it is common in winter? Please let me know. Thanks.

@apish Hello, yes it is. Our ears are made mostly of cartilage, with very little insulating fat, they can become cold very easily. Additionally, cold weather can irritate sensitive tissue in the ear canals, thus making earaches more common. Here are some reasons why you might experience ear pain in cold weather: Congestion, Middle Ear Infection, Sinus Infection.
Here are some ways in which you can prevent earaches during winter:

        • Make sure to cover your ears outdoors.
        • Always dry your ears after showering or swimming.
        • Don't use cotton swabs or cotton wool, inside the ears.
        • Take care of any allergies to help prevent your Eustachian tubes from becoming congested.
Ear pain in winter is a common occurrence that often aggravates existing ear conditions like tinnitus. You should talk to your doctor if the pain persists. Thank You!
