Hello, I am 28 years old female. I am 14 weeks pregnant. I have been having red and swollen gums and yesterday at night when I was brushing my teeth I spotted blood also. I am confused as I heard it is common during pregnancy. Can anyone tell me what causes bleeding gum during pregnancy?

@angi Hello, and congratulations. Hormonal changes during pregnancy can make your gums more vulnerable to plaque, leading to inflammation and bleeding. This is also called pregnancy gingivitis or gum disease. Bleeding gums are caused by a build-up of plaque on the teeth. It's very important to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy while you're pregnant. The best way to prevent or deal with gum problems is to practice good oral hygiene. Please talk to your dentist. Thanks!
