Why does my back hurt during periods?
-
Hello, I am 18 years old female. Why does my back hurt before and during periods? Pain in my back increases with periods. During my periods I can barely move. Pain starts from the lower back and ends with the legs. Even my legs hurt a lot during periods. Pain decreases with the end menstrual cycle. Please let me know why does it happen?

@sunisha Hello, Low back pain during menstruation is typically muscular in nature and thought to be caused by hormone changes. Prostaglandin is a hormone released during a menstrual cycle to promote uterine contraction to shed the uterine lining which can affect the lower back muscles. I would recommend you to consult a gynecologist as your pain is crucial and it could be a symptom of a chronic condition like premenstrual dysphoric disorder, dysmenorrhea, and endometriosis. If your lower back pain is so severe that you’re unable to perform daily activities, it’s time to see your doctor. They might perform a variety of tests to see whether you have endometriosis or another condition causing your severe pain. If there is no underlying condition like endometriosis then certain lifestyle changes might help you.
