Hello, I am 22 years old female. A few weeks back I got done my blood level check and the results were very shocking. My TSH level is 8. The doctor said it is very high as the normal TSH level should be 5.0 whereas mine was 8.0. A few years I got tested at that point my thyroid was slightly high and I took medicine to control my TSH level but then I stopped taking medicines as I didn’t know what will be the consequences. My weight is rapidly increasing. My doctor said only lifestyle change can help me along with medicine what should I do? Please help!

@jyotsanaa Hello, it is a condition in which the thyroid doesn’t create and release enough thyroid hormone into your bloodstream. This makes your metabolism slow down. Also called underactive thyroid, hypothyroidism can make you feel tired, gain weight and be unable to tolerate cold temperatures. hypothyroidism is treated by replacing the amount of hormone that your thyroid is no longer making. This is typically done with medication. One medication that is commonly used is called levothyroxine. Taken orally, this medication increases the amount of thyroid hormone your body produces, evening out your levels. You can treat hypothyroidism by eating iodine-rich food. Foods that are high in iodine are- Eggs, and Dairy products. Please plan it with your dietician. Other than that please perform some physical activity. Thanks!
