Does smoking cause bladder cancer?
-
Hello, yesterday when I went for a regular health chec-up my doctor warned me about my smoking habit. He told me I might have bladder cancer after seeing my lifestyle he thought I might have a few symptoms of bladder cancer as I have been experiencing pain during urinating and frequent urination. He even told me that smoking causes bladder cancer. I am worried. Is it true does smoking causes bladder cancer?

@raajan Hello, yes it is true. Smoking is the single biggest risk factor for bladder cancer. This is because tobacco contains cancer-causing (carcinogenic) chemicals. these chemicals pass into your bloodstream and are filtered by the kidneys into your urine. The bladder is repeatedly exposed to these harmful chemicals, as it acts as a store for urine. This can cause changes to the cells of the bladder lining, which may lead to bladder cancer. You should get tested to find out what causes frequent and painful urination as it could be caused by other diseases like bladder stones, and overactive bladder. Thanks!
