What is deep vein thrombosis?
-
Hello, a few weeks back I had excruciating pain in my left leg. I thought it might be because of an injury but the next day I had swelling on my left leg. The very next day I contacted a GP and he examined my symptoms and asked me to take some tests. He said I have deep vein thrombosis. I never heard about such a condition earlier. Please let me know what is deep vein thrombosis? What causes it?

@tim Hello, Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot that develops within a deep vein in the body, usually in the leg. DVT usually occurs in a deep leg vein, a larger vein that runs through the muscles of the calf and the thigh. It can also occur in the pelvis or abdomen. Anything that prevents your blood from flowing or clotting normally can cause a blood clot. Contact your doctor if you have again had its symptoms. Thanks!
