Hi, The abdominal aorta is the largest blood vessel in the body. An abdominal aortic aneurysm is a swelling of the aorta the main blood vessel that leads away from the heart, down through the abdomen to the rest of the body. My uncle is suffering from a small aneurysm. The doctor said smoking weakened the aorta. Is it a serious condition? How serious is an abdominal aortic aneurysm? Is it a thing to worry about?

@thruive Hello, The abdominal aorta is the largest blood vessel in the body. He should stop smoking as it can lead to a large aneurysm. If a large aneurysm bursts, it causes huge internal bleeding and is usually fatal. Most people with AAA don’t have any symptoms until the aneurysm is close to rupturing. Treatment depends on the size of the aneurysm. Aneurysms that are less than five centimeters in diameter have a low risk of rupturing and may not need treatment right away. You can talk to your doctor about his condition.
