Intensive BP Control Linked to Increase in Cerebral Blood Flow
-
Intensive blood pressure control to a target of less than 120 mm Hg was not associated with a reduction of cerebral perfusion compared with a standard target of less than 140 mm Hg in a substudy of the SPRINT trial. In fact, contrary to expectations, the intensive group showed an increase in cerebral blood flow, and this was more pronounced in participants with a history of cardiovascular disease.

@harup One of the concerns from clinicians about intensive blood pressure lowering has been about effects on the brain and a possible reduction in cerebral perfusion, which could cause all sorts of issues including eventual cognitive impairment and dementia
