How alcohol can harm baby during pregnancy?
Hello, I am 25 years old female. I have been drinking since I was 17 years old. I am 3 months pregnant and my gynecologist asked me to stop drinking as it can harm my baby. I can’t stop drinking because every time I try to stop drinking alcohol I feel panic and anxiety. How does alcohol affect the baby during pregnancy? How alcohol can harm a baby during pregnancy?
@audrey Alcohol can be harmful at any stage.
Drinking alcohol damages your baby's developing cells which can affect how their brain and organs develop and how they look makes it more likely you'll have a miscarriage or your baby will be born early or underweight, which can cause fetal alcohol spectrum disorder
Even small amounts of alcohol can cross over from your body into your baby. The exact level of alcohol exposure that can lead to harm is not known with certainty, but the more you drink, the greater the possible harm.
If you drink while pregnant your baby could develop fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). This is a term used to describe a range of alcohol-related birth defects.
If you have difficulty cutting down what you drink, talk to a doctor or pharmacist. Thanks!
