Acute urinary retention is an inability to pass urine. which subsequently leads to pain and discomfort, with significant residual volumes. Acute urinary retention (AUR) is most prevalent in older males. Some males pass small quantities of urine, however, still have significant residual volumes and ongoing discomfort. Can anyone tell me what causes Acute urinary retention in males? What should one do to prevent it?

@garrison Hello, The most common cause in men is benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Other factors like UTIs, constipation, Severe pain can often cause patients to enter acute retention, medications, Neurological causes such as Bladder Sphincter Dysinergy can cause Acute urinary retention. You can make some changes in your routine, and eating healthy and exercising to prevent Acute urinary retention (AUR).
