What is the reason behind postpartum hair fall?
Hello, many new moms experience hair loss in the initial months after delivering the baby. Hair shedding usually peaks about four months after giving birth. I am in the third trimester of my pregnancy. Please suggest some tips to prevent post-partum hair loss and let me know why it happens only after pregnancy? What is the reason behind postpartum hair fall?
@tanner Hello, no need to worry postpartum hair loss is normal. Postpartum hair loss occurs after childbirth because of the sudden change of hormones in your body, particularly the change between progesterone and estrogen. During pregnancy, the body increases the amount of estrogen it produces which signals more follicles to enter the growing phase than the resting phase of the hair growth cycle. During this time, you may experience fuller, thicker hair. You may also notice that your hair grows significantly faster during pregnancy than before. After childbirth, estrogen levels drop the hair follicles enter the resting phase, fewer hairs grow, and the hair begins to shed.
You can prevent post-partum hair loss by exercising regularly, taking a healthy diet, and taking postpartum vitamins and supplement prescribed by your doctor. Thanks!
