Will Lasa fever be the next COVID-19?
-
There is a double impact in Africa of Lasa fever and the COVID-19. Symptoms of Lasa fever are similar to that of COVID-19, so it is difficult to diagnose. According to certain reports Nigeria has been the epicenter for annual outbreaks of the disease, with case numbers peaking in 2020. Lassa fever is of concern due to the severity of symptoms, risk of death, and concern over the potential of the virus. Will it be the next Covid-19? Will it cause another pandemic?

@unmesh Hello, yes they both have the same symptoms. They are very different viruses. Lassa fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic fever caused by a single-stranded RNA virus known as the Lassa virus. It won’t cause a pandemic as the lasa fever is transmitted through contact with the urine and feces of Mastomys rodents. SARS-CoV-2 is a respiratory virus, and is highly contagious and easily transmitted from person to person via aerosolized droplets. Thanks!
