Is Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) common?
It is an autoimmune condition in which caused by the body's immune system. The reaction causes a skin rash to develop. In Dermatitis herpetiformis, a red rash is developed on the knee, elbow, and buttocks. My wife is suffering from dermatitis herpetiformis, she developed a red rash on her knees. We didn’t know anything about this condition. Is Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) common? Is it treatable?
@blithe Hello, it is caused when the body's immune system reacts to the protein called gluten in foods containing wheat, barley, and rye. Antibodies (IgA) are produced, which subsequently deposit in the skin. This reaction causes itchy, red bumps and blisters commonly seen in dermatitis herpetiformis. Dermatitis herpetiformis can affect anyone at any age. However, it is most likely to affect people between the ages of 30 and 40. Dermatitis herpetiformis affects 10% to 25% of celiac disease patients. It is rare in children. Thanks.
