Recent studies suggest the use of antibiotics in borns can decrease healthy gut bacteria and increase antimicrobial resistance in babies when used in the first week of being born. So one should be more cautious while prescribing and giving medicine to newborns. It is true? Is it safe to give antibiotics to newborns?

@pythia Antibiotics are only effective against bacteria. Babies need antibiotics only if they are suffering from these common childhood ailments like fever, pneumonia, whooping cough, infections like ear infections, and UTIs. These antibiotic medications also come with side effects like rashes, allergic reactions, nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain. If you notice such symptoms then do contact your doctor. If he/she is not suffering from ailments like fever, pneumonia, whooping cough, infections like ear infections, and UTIs then it is better to avoid them. Thanks.
