Hello, my 7 years old son has a habit of nose-picking in spite of asking him not to do so so many times. I am worried. I talked to my doctor as I worried, it could be a symptom of anxiety. He said it is common in children. But this behavior is troublesome and pretty gross. Also, nose-picking spreads germs. Please suggest to me how can I treat his nose-picking habit? How do you treat compulsive nose picking?

@rameero Nose picking is a pretty normal preschool habit and there are a few reasons why they do it. They do it when they are stressed, nervous, or bored. They also may pick their nose because of the excess moisture. Nose picking can cause nosebleeds and infections as well. Here are a few things that can be done- Use saline spray, Bring their attention to it immediately when he picks his nose, If tissues are around, hand them one and suggest they use it instead, engage him in mindful activities like meditation which will relieve his stress or anxiety, and habit reversal training will help him in becoming aware of his habits. Habit reversal training helps people become aware of and interrupt their habitual behaviors. Thanks.
