Why do women with PCOS have high insulin level?
-
Hello, Women with PCOS are often increasing their risk for type 2 diabetes. They also have higher levels of androgens (male hormones that females also have), which can stop eggs from being released and cause irregular periods, acne, thinning scalp hair, and excess hair growth on the face and body. The exact cause of PCOS isn’t known but androgen levels that are higher than normal play an important part. Studies suggest women with PCOS have high insulin levels. Why?

@reynoldo Hello, insulin regulates blood glucose levels. When blood glucose levels rise, such as after eating, these cells make insulin to help the body use glucose for energy. Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia can happen in both normal-weight and overweight people with PCOS. With insulin resistance, Too much insulin generates inflammation and causes weight gain. It can also lead to Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Insulin resistance is a key feature of both obese and lean PCOS.
