Hello, my grandfather suffers from Irritable bowel syndrome. He is 83 years old male. It is a common disorder that affects the large intestine. He was suffering from diarrhea, and abdominal pain so we consulted a doctor. A lot of people suggested that probiotics will be helpful in treating it? Should we give it a try? What is the reason please explain? Thanks!

@pippin Hello, studies have suggested that probiotics may be useful in the treatment of IBS. Although the exact mechanism for how probiotics may aid in the reduction of symptoms commonly found in IBS is unknown, the effects of probiotics on alterations in gut bacteria appear to play a part. Probiotics help restore balance in a number of ways, including by inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria, reducing inflammation, and slowing down the digestive system. The exact causes of IBS are not yet understood but may relate to brain-gut interactions, bacterial overgrowth, infection, inflammation, and sensitivity.
