Hello, People often ignore the low platelets but a low platelet count can increase your risk of hemorrhage or severe bleeding. Excessive bleeding whether internal or external can be life-threatening. A low platelet count can put you at risk for excessive bleeding and bruising. Can anyone explain what causes low platelets? What can increase the risk of thrombocytopenia?

@pris Hello, thrombocytopenia is inherited, or passed from parent to child. One of the most common causes of low platelets is a condition called immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). The main cause of low platelets is unknown but it is said that it is more commonly, that certain disorders, conditions, and medications cause a low platelet count. Consumption of alcohol, Bone marrow diseases, Exposure to toxic chemicals, including arsenic, benzene, and pesticides, and viruses such as hepatitis C causes thrombocytopenia.
