If my Testosterone and Androgen hormone levels are normal then why do I have thick hair on my neck?
Hello, I am 34 years old female. I always have been a hairy person as a woman. I had laser treatment and it kind of worked, but I still have hairs around my jawline, and where men have beards. The hair is thick too. My upper lip area is fine. I also checked my Testosterone and Androgen hormone levels they are normal then what else can cause thick hair on the neck?
@tangwystl Hirsutism refers to coarse or colored hair that grows on the face and body of some women. Increased levels of androgens or oversensitivity of the hair follicles to androgens can cause hirsutism but if your androgen level is normal then it could be caused by the high level of insulin. High levels of insulin may also activate the insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-1) receptor in those same cells. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), or the drug Danazol, may contribute to hirsutism. Talk to your doctor if insulin levels are high, reducing them may lead to a reduction in hirsutism.
