Allergic to nickel. What is a test for tantalum allergy?
-
Hello, I am 45 years old. My neurosurgeon is considering the alloy tantalum since I was allergic to nickel for my surgery and was wondering since I don't know if there is a test that exists for tantalum and since I heard it was inert. Can anyone help me with this? Please let me know in the comments. Thank You!

@ikkel Hello, Tantalum appears to offer the least allergic profile in comparison to other metals and was therefore chosen for the patient. Anyone with a suspected metal allergy should first be cleared by an allergist before receiving a metal implant. While tantalum and titanium are both highly passive low likelihood of triggering an immune response and are often substituted for patients allergic to other metals. It's possible to detect a titanium allergy ahead of time with a MELISA test. This type of blood test isolates your white blood cells, exposes them to titanium, and measures the immune response to titanium. Thank You!
