Upper chest tightness and difficulty in breathing. What kind of specialist I should go to?
-
I am 31 years old male. I was sleeping and suddenly I felt that I am out of breath and not getting enough air in my lungs. I got panicked and woke up. But that feeling was there for 10-15 minutes, after which I started feeling ok and slept again. I went to ER and they took a chest x-ray and did the blood work, which was normal. They suggested acute bronchitis and gave me an albuterol inhaler and told me to use the same when I have a similar attack. I had a similar attack early in the morning, with chest tightness and breathing difficulty. Again I visited the same doctor and he performed EKG, Blood Tests, which were normal. Now for the last 2 weeks, I have had this upper chest tightness and difficulty in breathing, quite consistently. Sometimes I feel mild pain in the center of my chest. Please suggest to me, what should I do, I am very worried and don't know where to go for help? What kind of specialist I should go to?

@ron-1 Hello, it sounds like a classic panic attack. They tend to occur for no reason, just out of the blue, and they are also fairly common. it happens to so many people, it feels like you are going to die, and they tend to make general anxiety worse, which brings them on more frequently. Talk to your doctor about something to relieve them, and if what he gives you first is ineffective, try seeing a psychiatrist, they are MDs who specialize in diseases and disorders. It can also be reduced by regular exercise and a healthy diet. Thanks!
