Hello, I am 27 years old female. Has anyone taken or know anyone who has taken metronidazole for BV. I’m 12 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Were there any complications? I am suffering from BV and the initial symptoms were a burning sensation while urinating, and an unusual discharge with a foul smell. My doctor prescribed me metronidazole. Should I take it? Please suggest!!

@uthie Hello, Metronidazole, a nitroimidazole derivative, is a recommended treatment during pregnancy for bacterial vaginosis (BV) and infections with Trichomonas vaginalis . During pregnancy, treating bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis with metronidazole is effective and offers no teratogen risk. The benefit of metronidazole in the reduction of preterm birth was demonstrated for the combination of this medication with other antibiotics. Thanks!
