Hello, Is there a vaccine against monkeypox available? As children we had the smallpox vaccine, but is that still sufficient after 50 years, Do we need a booster? Is any waiting period required between the monkeypox vaccine and the COVID vaccine or the single vaccine? Just worried.

@amal Hello, and welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. a vaccine to treat monkeypox is yet to be developed. Having had the smallpox vaccine puts you in a greater position. It will still provide 'some' immunity that would likely lessen the illness should you contract it. Monkeypox is not an airborne illness and there are vaccines already in existence. Most recover from monkeypox without incidence. Face-to-face contact and bodily fluid are how it appears to be transmitted. Yes, the disease is treatable, Experts have said that people with more serious illnesses of monkeypox may develop a rash and lesions on the face and hands that can spread to other parts of the body. However, most patients recover within about two to four weeks without needing to be hospitalized. While a specific vaccine to treat monkeypox is yet to be developed, smallpox vaccines are effective against viral infection and anti-viral drugs are also being developed.
