Am I in perimenopause? My bloodwork is normal.
Hello, I am a 36 years old female. I think I am in perimenopause. I am on the pill and my bloodwork comes back saying that my hormone levels are normal, yet I have had hot flashes for 4 years and I keep getting dizzy spells and nausea. Is this normal and do you think I’m in perimenopause? If yes, then what can I do? Please help!!! Please give effective suggestions. Thank You.
@uller Hello, elevated follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels are measured to confirm menopause. When a woman's FSH blood level is consistently elevated to 30 mIU/mL or higher, and she has not had a menstrual period for a year, it is generally accepted that she has reached menopause. Women over 45 years presenting with menopausal symptoms are diagnosed with perimenopause or menopause based on their symptoms alone, without confirmatory laboratory tests. Women under 40 years presenting with menopausal symptoms have their levels of FSH measured. There are no current roles for blood tests in the diagnosis of menopause. Hormone levels fluctuate daily based on a variety of factors; they are a poor indicator of menopause and should not be used to diagnose menopause. Therefore, just because your blood hormone levels are normal does not exclude the possibility of menopause and is the only way to accurately diagnose menopause. If you are indeed menstruating regularly but are having dizzy spells, bouts of nausea, and hot flashes, then it is unlikely you are undergoing menopause. It is better to consult a doctor. Thank You!
