Hello, Is it common for COPD patients to experience phlegm in the throat regularly? I am having this problem although I have no cough or sore throat from time to time I get this phlegm. I do gargles every day to keep my throat clear. Can anyone tell me? Should I be worried?

@llee Hello, Some patients with COPD have increased mucus production. This is because they have more goblet cells than people without COPD. They may also have oversized mucus glands in their airways. This overproduction results in a chronic cough. COPD can cause your lungs to produce excess mucus, leading to frequent coughing. Not all coughs are effective in clearing excess mucus from the lungs. Explosive or uncontrolled coughing causes airways to collapse and spasm, trapping mucus. If it bothers you then it is better to consult a doctor. Thanks!
