Hello, I am 25 years old female. I am 5 weeks pregnant. Can anyone give me some suggestions or advice that I need to follow being type-1 diabetic? I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 14 years old. I thought it would be difficult for me to get pregnant but somehow I managed. Please let me know what Things to make sure of during pregnancy if I have type-1 diabetes. Thanks!

@payten Hello, During your pregnancy, you need to adjust your diabetes management plan. Blood sugar levels that stay high during pregnancy may cause your baby to grow too large (macrosomia) or harm the early development of organs and lead to birth defects. Women who have type 1 diabetes can have a safe pregnancy and a healthy baby, but it’s important to monitor diabetes that could worsen throughout pregnancy, such as high blood pressure, vision loss, and kidney disease. Other risks include Preeclampsia, Insulin resistance, Miscarriage, and Macrosomia. Women with type 1 diabetes can breastfeed their babies. Having diabetes may delay your ability to produce breast milk at first, but it should improve over time. Breastfeeding is an energy-consuming activity, just like physical activity. Careful planning and attention to your medical needs give you the best chance to stay healthy during pregnancy and have a healthy baby. Thank You!!
