Hello, I have been reading a lot about the effect of alcohol drinking on women and the types of cancers. I have drunk quite considerably over the last 5 to 10 years but I am now trying to cut down how many units I have per week. However, I am worried I have already done long terms damage to myself and this is non-reversible. If I cut down my drinks intake will that reduce my risk - or is the damage already done? Any thoughts on this would be really appreciated.

@sea Hello, Drinking even small amounts of alcohol is linked with an increased risk of breast cancer in women. Alcohol can raise estrogen levels in the body, which may explain some of the increased risks. Avoiding or cutting back on alcohol may be an important way for many women to lower their risk of breast cancer. The recommended maximum intake of alcohol as recommended by the health agencies of many governments is very variable. There is no uniform scientific evidence for the 'safe daily limit' for alcohol. Even 'moderate' consumption has been shown to increase the risk of certain cancers. Thanks!
