Hello, there is a bump on the tongue of my 5-year-old son for a month. Earlier we visited a doctor he said it will go away. In the months after that, the bump grew slowly and got larger. There is No irritation or No pain. I tried to feel it with my hand and I can sense that it has some depth. We are visiting a doctor tomorrow but want to know what it could be? Please help!!

@ryanne Hello, you made the right choice. It could be Herpangina. Herpangina is a sudden viral illness in children. It causes small blister-like bumps or sores (ulcers) in the mouth. They are often in the back of the throat or the roof of the mouth. A tongue bump is more likely to be cancerous if it grows on the side of the tongue, particularly if it is hard and painless. It is worth consulting a doctor about any lump or bumps that last longer than a week or two. An infection in the mouth or on the tongue may cause swelling and pain at the site of the infection. He needs a full evaluation. Thanks!!
